Masters Of Mash is a deep dive into mashups with a specific focus on the producers that helped fuel the worldwide phenomenon for over two decades. "A decade before Girl Talk became famous for mashing up rock and hip-hop samples, there was "Some Assembly Required,"" - CHRIS RIEMENSCHNEIDER (Minneapolis Star Tribune) Jon Nelson's nationally syndicated radio program, Some Assembly Required was a sample based music & audio art show that focused on "artists who appropriate sounds from the media environment" and divided into three categories: tape manipulations, digital deconstructions and turntable creations. While he initially focused on legendary sound collage artists that were more closely aligned with his personal plunderphonic project Escape Mechanism, mashups made their way into the cultural zeitgeist of the early aughts and slowly made their way deep into his programming. Over the course of 12 years he conducted over 175 interviews, capturing historic snapshots of mashup producers such as A + D, Aggro1, dj BC, Colatron, Copycat, Divide & Kreate, Dsico, DJ Earlybird, Earworm, Evolution Control Committee, DJ EZG, Freelance Hellraiser, Fenchbloke, Futuro, Girl Talk, Go Home Productions, IDC, The Kleptones, Lenlow, Lobsterdust, Osymyso, Party Ben, Phatbastard, RIAA, DJ RIKO, Soundhog, Stark Effect, Team9, Voicedude, Wax Audio, The Who Boys, and DJ Zebra.
