No One Asked: Radio Perzine

No One Asked is a mini series I started, at WFMU, while working on my first perzine. The Sheena's Jungle Room stream there, has been great fun.
A "perzine" (for you radio fans who don’t know zine culture, and its funny terms) is a zine, which is short for magazine. And the prefix, "per," is short for personal, which indicates the contents of this creative effort are more personal than ...anything else.
Some perzines are painfully personal, some are self deprecating and funny. IDK what mine is. I guess you could listen and find out.
Zine Title Brainstorm
There are fIve or six "issues," at this point, and I haven't been aggressively sharing this page publicly, yet, but am making it live, for those who want to find it. Explore below, if you're so inclined....
The episodes, in order, so far:
February 27, 2024 - No One Asked #1
In which I share stories from my childhood (Dallas, late '70s), with my therapist,
and you. I produced the heck out of this. It’s a worthy first effort.
April 23, 2024 - No One Asked #2 (Part One)
This is Part One of an attempt to finally do something with a cassette I made,
as a kid. ...My idea, in the mid eighties, was to keep a daily journal on tape…
August 27, 2024 - No One Asked #2 (Part Two)
Part Two is the conclusion. My childhood daily journal. On Cassette.
With Commentary, like part one.
February 25, 2025 No One Asked: 1984
Reading from my real childhood journal. With commentary.
September 23, 2025 No One Asked: 1986
Reading from my real childhood journal. With commentary.
October 21, 2025 No One Asked: Mad World Marathon: 2025
The most recent “issue,” and the first which isn’t focused safely on childhood. These were notes taken after attending the protest in Portland, to accompany an old mix tape...
I've been brainstorming zine titles for over a decade...
I love perzines, and have been reading them since the nineties. About twenty years ago, I started reading them with the idea that I might make one of my own. And never did. Why? Idk. Radio is easier than publishing, I guess? Or it is, to me.
I still want to make a perzine. In fact, I have. The first one’s done, but I haven’t officially published it yet. I need to learn a thing or two about margins and paper weights, first.
In the meantime, I think that’s what this is.
No One Asked is a Radio Perzine. Idk, maybe I finally invented something new... It just took a split second for me to regret writing that. Radio Perzines are everywhere, as podcasts. This is just mine.
And that’s a working title. I reserve the right to change it to something even BETTER. No One Asked is pretty perfect though...
Portion of a page from my first, as-yet-unpublished zine...
