25th Anniversary of Some Assembly Required

25 years ago, I was getting ready to go on the air in Minneapolis, for the first time, and got myself booked onto practically every “specialty show” at the station, to talk about it.

A condensed remix of these appearances was incorporated into the 25th anniversary special,

Presented here is a more detailed look back on Radio K's specialty programming, in April, 2001.

Yes, it's got an annoying central character who won't shut up about his new radio show, but aside from that, it's a fairly fascinating look into a couple of weeks at a midwestern college radio station, in early 2001.

Back to the SAR 25th Anniversary episode HERE.

Visit KUOM's website HERE.

It’s a college radio time capsule, including Radio K programs, The Descent (Darkwave, Industrial), The Music Lovers Club (new & local music), Out of Step (Punk), Rock and Roll Over (the morning show), Off The Record (local music showcase), The Beat Box (Hip Hop), Rude Radio (Ska), Radio K International (international music) and Cosmic Slop (“forgotten pop" from the '70s).

Thanks to all the hosts, for playing along and helping me get the word out, 25 years ago: Jonathan Ford, Erik Hoover, Mike Neuharth, Mark Wheat, Tony Drollinger, Kate Silver, Karla Klaustermeyer, Ali Elabbady, Mike Spoo, Brad Klein, Paul Harding, Chuck Tomlinson and Joel Stitzel. Long live Radio K.
